Unusual adventure: Zip-line in a cave (unique experience in Louisville area)
Having zip-lined in a couple places already, I was excited to find out about an in-cave zip-line experience. This is available just outside Louisville Kentucky and is the world’s only fully-underground zip-line course. Mega-zips is a really fun experience.
If you go: make sure you go to the bathroom first as there are no bathrooms on the tour (for obvious reasons) and the full experience can be 3 hours long. Also, remember to dress properly, with shoes that won’t come off and warmish clothing as it is around 60 degrees in the cave year-round.
To zip-line in the cave, first, you are given a briefing about how zip-lining works, and how they will process your group through the zip-line course. Then they demonstrate and help you put on your safety gear and check that everything is correct.
Next, you start the course. There is always one tour guide in front of the group and one in back. The first one will zip over to the next station, then the other one will help everyone zip over to that station, following on his own.
At all times, you will be connected to safety equipment on the course so that you cannot fall off. Each person has 2 separate clips, so before one is removed from one fixed point, the other is attached to the next fixed point. This makes the tour take longer than you might expect, as each person is transferred multiple times by the guides.
There are 6 zip-lines and some are quite long. One is even a pair of racing zip-lines so you can see who went faster.
Overall a great and very safe experience.
Happy travels!
