Key West – Cemetery/Graveyard fun
The people in Key West are a little bit odd and they like it that way.
It’s remote (although not as remote as it used to be), with only one way in and out and many residents have been there since before it was so “easily accessible”
One part of Key West I particularly enjoyed was the funny epitaphs on several of the graves. For example, shown here: “I told you I was sick”, “I’m just resting my eyes” and “Devoted Fan of Julio Iglesias”.
There are many more fun things to see here, but if you go, make sure to know the difference between a graveyard and a cemetery, lest you end up the wrong place as my friend and I did when trying to get to this attraction.
If you go, here is a good guide to what you can see in the area. It includes both the humorous (as I’ve shown in this post) and the historically significant epitaphs.
Epitaphs used to be more common, but now are less often seen, which is sad. This book has more about the dying art (ha ha)
