What do you need for an Alaskan Cruise?
If you are going on a cruise to Alaska, you need most of the things you need on a traditional (warm-weather) cruise, but you’ll also likely want to have some things that are specific to cruising in Alaska.
When on a cruise to Alaska, you generally start in an area that is warm and the temps get progressively lower the farther north you go. So you’ll need a little bit of warm and 70 degree weather clothes (for the first day and sea days when you’ll likely spend much of your time indoors) and warmer outdoor clothing for days you’ll be outside looking at glaciers or on excursions in Alaskan/Canadian towns.
Some things you’ll likely want to bring:
- binoculars – you can sometimes see bears, otters, whales and other animals while on the ship if you have binoculars. Even small sports ones will help – no need to buy anything fancy
- chapstick
- rainwear – it often rains in Alaska during the summer – so a raincoat and hat would be a good idea
- down jacket – this can easy pack into your bag/backpack when it gets warm during the day., but can be essential in the mornings and evenings in Alask
- smartphone gloves – great so your fingers don’t go numb quickly while taking photos of glaciers and bears, eagles, etc.
- warm socks for in your cabin – it can take a while for your feet to warm up if you’ve been outside for a while, give them a little help 🙂
