Seeing the Aurora Borealis?
One thing I would like to do in the not too distant future is to see the Aurora Borealis.
- Russia, Mongolia, etc
- Greenland
- Alaska (Fairbanks)
- Norway Sweden Finland Scotland
- Iceland (Reykyavik)
- Canada (Yellow Knife or Whitehorse?)
Looking at this list, given the expense of traveling to Scandinavia, Scotland, and Russia, those are out of the running for me unless I’m already going to the area.
I figure my best bets are Canada or Alaska. Anyone ever been on a trip and seen them? Where were you? Did you see them more than a few times? I know you have to plan to be most places a couple days to have the best chance of seeing them.
Right now I’m leaning toward Yellow Knife as being the most reasonable way of seeing the AB. Any suggestions?
Don’t be discouraged. I remember seeing them as a small child in southern Indiana, actually. It was a rare occurrence, but definitely not unheard of, although the lights of Indianapolis are far more pronounced than they were then. In any case, it’s mostly timing. Perhaps this website could help…? https://www.aurorahunter.com/northern-lights-forecast.html
I’ll go with you! Love ya, Mom
