Avoiding SIM card hassle around the world

I just signed up for Google Fi, and am quite happy with the service. It works in more than 200 places, and the starting price is $20/month plus $10 per gig of data, and texts are free everywhere they have service. So if you don’t use a lot of data, it could even be cheaper than buying a SIM card each place you go (and certainly less annoying than having to hunt down a SIM card first thing upon arrival), which can be really challenging when you arrive late at night, or early in the morning, and want to call your hotel/hostel.

If you are interested in signing up, this link should get you $20 off your first month.

I used it recently in England, Spain, Portugal and Germany, and after turning off Flight Mode, I quickly got a message like this in each location and it worked great.
