Shout out to Arthur Scales (CTA rail operator, Chicago)
In the morning, when heading to work, I sometimes get on a train operated by (I think) Arthur Scales (he often refers to himself as Scales, but I found a CTA roster with one employee with that last name). He likes to talk to us as he drives. Encouraging riders to keep track of their belongings, kids to study hard and stay in school, and other positive statements.
If I’m remembering them correctly:
- Study hard and you’ll go far
- Staaaaaaaay focused
- [I’ll add others as I think of them]
Today he went a litter farther afield and was talking about what we might be doing over the weekend, and one of his suggestions because the weather isn’t going to be nice, was to sit and watch tv with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I think many of us on the train thought that sounded like an excellent idea.
If my information is correct, he’s been working for the CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) since 1996, continuing through the pandemic. I remember him from before the pandemic as well, but just am writing this now.
Anyone else have a public transit driver that makes their ride more interesting?
Update: Well, you won’t get Scales anymore on the trains as he retired at the beginning of summer 2023. Best wishes to him!
