Save time and money: misfortunate (but reasonably priced) fruit and veg delivered
There are a couple of services that send you otherwise unpicked/wasted produce that was too small, or lumpy, or misshapen. Nothing wrong with it nutritionally just doesn’t fit properly in the sorting bins or looks funny, so unwanted.
I like everything about this, as it saves waste, and saves me time and money, leaving me to do other things, like save money for a trip to Africa I’ll likely do in 2021.
Imperfect Foods
I tried Imperfect and the produce was ok, but I really like the non-produce items. That link should get you $10 off your purchase. When they say a fruit or vegetable is small, pay attention, because they mean it (and when that happens often the pricing isn’t very good. But they are what I use most of the time becaue they have eggs, and cheese, and other foods like that..
Misfit Market
I recently tried Misfit Market and I like that better. If you follow that link, you’ll get 25% off your first box. And the pricing is usually good already. They make sure you have a mix of a leafy green, some vegetables, and some fruit. However, unlike Imperfect you don’t get to choose each item you get. They do show you which things you are likely to get and give you a recipe with each box. I also can choose my delivery day in Chicago (that might or might not be available in other locations)
This is the box I got today. A good mix of fruits and veggies. Those carrots and the broccolini won’t last long. Everything looks great.
This way I get fresh fruits and veggies delivered right to my door at a decent price, which pretty much ensures I’ll eat them. And so far, the ones they’ve given me have been pretty flexible. Apples, pluots, salad greens, leeks, sweet potatoes, etc. I’m sure I’ll end up with rutabaga or endive at some point and just really will have to google what to do with them, but it’s nice that most of it is totally normal things I’m used to but different in each box.
