Rotorua Thermal area – New Zealand

Thermal pools can come in many colors

When you arrive in Rotorua, the first thing you may notice is the sulfur smell that wafts past you. The area is full of thermal areas in multiple different parks. Go to one or all of them if you want. There are beautiful things (and/or relaxing experiences) in each of them.

Kuirau Park is first because it’s the only one that is free. You can see the crater lake, several mud pools, and hot springs Additionally, there is a thermal foot bath (which is safe to use, not like many areas where the water is too hot to touch). The park itself is lovely with all the greenery.

Hell’s Gate has many thermal springs and has mud bathing also.

Te Puia has the largest active geyser in the southern hemisphere (Pohutu)

Waimangu Valley has their famous pink and white terraces from the mineral runoff from the hot springs.

Wai O Tapu is the home of the famous Champagne pool which shows many different rainbow colors.
A large geyser name Lady Knox lives here (she’s a beauty!), but you’ll probably also recognise the famous Champagne Pool. We think it’s vibrant colours must make it one of the most photographed spots in Rotorua.
