A Man, A Plan, A Canal – Panama
That well-known Palindrome is one of the few that make sense. I mean Taco Cat and Yo Banana Boy are fun, but they don’t really say anything.
The Panama Canal is an amazing feat of engineering that took over 30 years to complete. Started by the French, it was completed by Americans. It’s only about 50 miles long yet the construction cost thousands of lives. This is mostly due to yellow fever and malaria, but poisonous snakes and other animals contributed to the death toll.
If you are in Panama City, you can go to see Miraflores Locks easily, and if you are are in Colon, you can see the Gatun locks. There is one other lock but it is less visited (Pedro Miguel Locks).
There is also a museum about the Panama Canal in Panama City, and the Miraflores locks and Gatun locks both have visitors centers with info as well.
