Panama City's Biomuseo – wonderful for kids and adults
The Biomuseo – Biomuseum in Panama City is amazing and well worth a trip if you are in the city.
You can see their sense of humor in the above picture from a presentation about how Panama changed the world.
I recommend getting there early to enjoy the many exhibits nearly by yourself, and there is a nice nature walk outside as well as great views of the inlet to the Panama Canal including nice views of the bride.
The Museum is entered on the upper level and then a path takes you through each exhibit and a video. It is all very well done, and often offers a bit of humor.
I particularly enjoyed the room shown below with the giant fig and insects and the fun stories connecting them. If you go, listen to all of them. To the twist at the end. 🙂
Two giant columnar aquariums show the different sea creatures on the Caribbean and Pacific sides of Panama. There are sharks, eels, starfish and lots of different types of fish in the beautiful multi-story displays.
There is a fun room of hundreds of different spicy peppers, their Scoville rating and where they are from. They also have videos of people trying some of the pepper, which can be quite hilarious. [Find out more about why countries near the equator are more likely to have spicy food here.]
There are 2 large aquariums with the Atlantic sea creatures and Pacific sea creatures. And they have a really fun video where it shows how Panama almost destroyed the world or something because it blocked the Atlantic and Pacific from mixing and changed the weather forever.
