News of the Good: VR helps dementia patients
A company called Rendevor has a VR system that can help older adults including those with dementia.
The system offers many games and experiences and can be used socially as multiple people can be in the same experience at one time. They can visit many locations around the world virtually, by themselves or with others, experiencing the same sights and able to reminisce about when there were there or what it reminds them of. This helps with depression and removes some of the sense of social isolation that many elderly feel.
Family and friends can put old photos of the people’s weddings, trips, and homes in the viewers so they can revisit where they’ve been.
This gives a virtual way for older residents in assisted-living-communities to be able to “go home”. This is what so many of them want to do, although often their home no longer exists. But it can in VR.
