News of the Good: Power Plant = Ski Hill & Rock Climbing Wall in Denmark
Denmark is a pretty flat country that isn’t known for skiing or rock-climbing, but a power plant is making both those things easy for local people to try.
Copenhill is a waste-to-energy plant with a sports-enthusiasts dream facade. You can race your friends from starts at ski gates (with timer). You can freestyle with different obstacles. There’s even a children’s area. And a few times a year they’ll have tobogganing events. It’s got the tallest climbing wall in the world – at 270 feet, and lots of hiking and running trails. This thing is large. And the view from the top of the surrounding area is amazing.
The surface of the ski/snowboard areas is made from a silicone base and silicone mat, that let skis and snowboards slide similarly as to on snow. It also doesn’t wear them down more than snow according to the facility. You don’t even have to own equipment, they rent everything.
And remember. This is all a power plant. A very clean power plant. And you can see the workings of that power plant by taking the glass elevator to the top. The trash is converted into electricity and;/or heat for nearly a quarter of a million nearby homes.
What a great idea. If I go to Denmark, I’ll definitely try to see it.
