Not far from the center of Nairobi, in a lush area (and near the elephant orphanage), Karen Gixen’s former home and some of the grounds she owned including the remnants of the coffee processing area stand in a clearing.
Originally from Denmark, Gixen is famous for her books set in Africa (including Out of Africa and others that were published under a male pseudonym), and lived in Kenya for nearly 20 years before her death.
You can see farm equipment and coffee processing machines on the surrounding grounds.

The area was owned by Denmark after Gixen’s death, but they gave it to the country of Kenya to make it a museum.
