Agra Heritage Walks Handicraft Tour (India)

If you are in Agra and want to see various things around town, I highly recommend contacting Agra Heritage Walks. you can check out their Facebook page or the tours they currently offer on Trip Advisor.

I went to India with a female friend (despite many people telling us that for safety we needed to be in a group), and found Agra Heritage Walks and took their Handicraft Tour.

While I didn’t think we needed to be on a tour to be safe, neither of us wanted to drive, so this was a good way to see what we wanted and have transportation and information built into the day as well.

One stop was to see a gold hand-embroidery worker’s craft. This woman made incredibly rich velvety fabrics overlaid with gold embroidery in detailed patterns. This must’ve taken years to learn. The gold sparkled and was extremely fine and light when we were given a chance to inspect it.

Another stop was the marble inlay workshop which I wrote about in another post. This place has amazing stonework options for purchase and it’s nice to actually meet the people who make the items, rather than just buying at a store.

There was also a brief stop for a flower garland. The woman who made them (with her son’s assistance for super-speed; this is not their first rodeo 🙂 ) didn’t speak a word of English but communicated well through their glowing smiles. Each of us got a garland that smelled wonderfully throughout the day and evening.

The remaining handicraft on the tour the day we went was a beadwork ornament stop. The detail on these ornaments was glorious, and I think between the two of us we purchased about a dozen of her wares.

We enjoyed this tour so much we signed up for other tours offered by the group and learned much more about Agra’s history and architectural attractions.

Happy Travels!
