Cayman Islands – Back from Hell

Continued from: Cayman Islands – To Hell

After escaping Hell, generally, you will stop at a rum store on your tour. We went to Tortuga Rum and they had samples of rum cake and regular rum. I liked the rum so I bought 20 dollar sampler (it’s not available in the US) with gold rum, light rum, banana rum, coconut rum, and vanilla rum, IIRC. It was delivered to the ship and I got it back right before disembarking at the end of the cruise.

Finally, the tour will take you to either Dolphin Discovery OR the Cayman Turtle Center (there is nothing that tells you that you can only choose one of them in the tour description).

At Dolphin Discovery, you can see the dolphins for free as you don’t have time to swim with them.

The better alternative, in my opinion with the time you have, is to go to the Cayman Turtle Center across the street and see many green sea turtles as well as a few Ridley’s they’ve been breeding to replenish the dwindling wild population.

They have touch and wading tanks with turtles for all ages.

The breeding tank has dozens of sea turtles. A guard watches at night to see where they bury the eggs, and they are removed and taken to a hatchery.  Some of the hatchlings grow up at the center and others are released to the wild.

Pro Tip: If you have more time, there are multiple ticket options at Turtle Park. One includes using the full water park that is behind the turtle ponds.
