GWK – giant Vishnu monument (Bali)

The full name is Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park, so there’s no wonder it’s just referred to as GWK. It is a large park complex devoted to Vishnu and his mythical bird companion, Garuda.

Vishnu on Garuda

Its main attraction is the HUGE sculpture of Vishnu riding Garuda, which is at the top of the park and is viewable for miles around because of its height and size. At nearly 400 feet tall on its pedestal.

From the “Lotus Pond”

The rest of the park has some open spaces (including a completely dry courtyard called The Lotus Pond, which very much confused us) and has dance performances and other much smaller (yet sometimes still large) statues of other Hindu themes.

Pro-Tip: take the buggy ride up and then walk down from the peak.

Look out for this helpful sign far back from the statue.

If you see Manta Rum Margaritas on your way down the road to the exit, they are tasty and nice and cold.
