Platypus Lake – Cairns, Australia
In NE Australia (a bit south of Cairns), there is a place called Tarzali Lakes that you can see platypus in the wild.
This is a small lake that there are several platypi in. They are small and very fast so something like this may be the best picture you can get.
You have to stay quiet or you can scare them away. The lake area has informational signs about the platypuses, and a super-cute shop with platypus item, like a platypus tea strainer that I bought, generally at reasonable prices.
If you are interested in this hard to find monotreme and in the area, check it out. You can also see Curtain Fig and Cathedral Fig that are close by and make a day of it. They are quite spectacular as well, and this makes for a fun day trip from Cairns.
Happy travels!
P.S.
I found the tea infuser available on Amazon, of course. So anyone can get one – they are super cute. Sadly not available in brown, and only available to buy as of when I looked this up in a pair (or set of 4), but still adorable, and a much better price than I got.
