Dr Seuss’s trees in the desert (California)

Joshua trees are funky dancing trees from Dr Seuss’s imagination brought to life in a desert.

The backdrop of the mountains is beautiful, especially around sunrise and sunset.

However, unlike any forrest in Dr Seuss’s books which might have cute insects waiting to be your friend, Joshua Tree has bees that will attack you if you disturb their hives.

If you are staying locally, and preferably the moon is a small crescent, you can stay until the skies get dark and may be able to see the Milky Way as well as thousands of stars. Although Joshua Tree National Park isn’t far from Palm Springs, it still is classified as a Dark Sky Park.
